status of ROOT CVS repository

What is the status of the ROOT CVS repository? It was my understanding
that the core ROOT developers would eventually migrate to CVS provided
that they could be convinced that the semantics of CMZ could be mapped
to CVS in a reasonable way.

Is a ROOT CVS repository something that the ROOT user community could
help with?
