Problems with keyboard...

I'm having problems with keyboard configuration for use
Root.
It is installed on a Pentium 166 MHz PC and I can't type
several symbols (`, ", ' and others). I heard that I
should change my keyboard configuration to 437 but I don't
know how to do that. Should I reinstall Root, or there is a
way to do that in an easier way?.
